Art of War 15 JUDGING CRITERIA
Beginning with Art of War 15, all bouts conducted by the Art of War Fighting Championship will be judged according to a new set of criteria as sanctioned by the China General Administration of Sport and the Beijing Sports Commission.
Under the new judging criteria, there will be a total of (3) three judges at ringside to observe each bout.If the bout goes to its full time limit, the outcome will be decided by the judges. Each judge will select a winner, or declare the bout a DRAW, based on the following criteria, in descending order of priority:
CATEGORY 1 - Effort to finish the fight by KO or submission
CATEGORY 2 - Damage to your opponent
CATEGORY 3 - Ring control
Each judge will determine the outcome of the bout based on the above criteria in descending order of priority. Thus, if a fighter is found to have won in Category 1, he will be named the winner of the bout.If the judge views Category 1 as being equal between the 2 fighters, then he will look to see which fighter won Category 2, and so on...If the judge determines that both fighters are scored evenly in all 3 categories, it is within his discretion to rule the bout a DRAW.
DEFINITIONS
Category 1 Effort to Finish |
Effort to finish the fight means the focused and concentrated effort to win the fight either by KO, TKO, or submission of the opponent.A fighter that is constantly attacking with strikes while on his feet, with takedown attempts, with strikes on the ground, or with submission attempts on the ground is making an effort to finish the fight. A fighter that is always holding his opponent either in the standing clinch or on the ground, constantly retreating, or consistently adopts a defensive posture is not making an effort to finish the fight. |
Category 2 Damage |
Damage is calculated by a combination of clean strikes (more efficient) and heavy strikes (more effective) while standing or on the ground. The heavier striker who lands with efficiency, deserves more credit from the Judges than the total number landed. If striking power was equal, then the total number of strikes landed would be used as criteria. The total number of strikes landed should be of sufficient quantity to determine a winner in this category. When on the ground, strikes from the top position are generally heavier and more effective than strikes thrown from the bottom position.Although this is not always the case, strikes thrown from the top position will generally be considered by judges to be of “higher quality.” |
Category 3 Ring Control |
The fighter who is dictating the pace, place and position of the fight is displaying ring control.A striker who fends off a grappler’s takedown attempt and remain standing is displaying ring control.A grappler who can takedown an effective striker to fight on the ground is displaying ring control. The fighter on the ground who creates submission, mount or clean striking opportunities is displaying ring control. The fighter on the ground who is passing through his opponent’s guard and moving towards positional dominance (back, side, mount) is displaying ring control. |
Judges do not score each round to determine the winner of the bout.Instead, the judges look at the fight in its entirety, and will look for which fighter had the greater advantage throughout the fight. The judges will render a decision in accordance with the above criteria, IN ORDER OF PRIORITY.Each judge will render a decision at the end of the bout.
TYPES OF DECISIONS
At the end of the match, each Judge will render his decision based on the aforementioned criteria, and select FIGHTER A, FIGHTER B, or DRAW.
